Fujitsu’s Global Delivery Unit (GDU) is making significant strides in environmental sustainability through initiatives focused on circular economy, carbon neutrality, and biodiversity. Over the past year, we have encouraged resource conservation through activities that you’ll read about in the articles below. These efforts support Fujitsu’s vision of a circular economy where waste is minimised, and resources are valued and reused.

In its drive towards carbon neutrality, Fujitsu has committed to net zero greenhouse gas emissions in its value chain by 2040. Across GDU, we offset emissions from air travel by investing in verified carbon credits that support impactful projects like solar power access in India and grassland restoration in China. A number of our global facilities now run entirely on renewable energy, and we continue to incentivise the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles among staff.

Fujitsu also champions biodiversity, with employees across the globe engaging in a wide range of conservation activities. These include reforestation efforts, wildlife support, and river health monitoring. More than 2,800 trees have been planted, and hundreds of kilograms of waste collected on World Cleanup Day (20th September 2024). This reflects the aspirations of our employees to have a positive impact on our planet, as well as Fujitsu’s holistic and global approach to environmental responsibility.

Aligned with Fujitsu’s commitment to Living in Harmony with Nature, Global Delivery Unit employees have engaged in a remarkable range of activities over the past 12 months. Our diverse initiatives showcase how Fujitsu is translating environmental goals into concrete actions that benefit biodiversity worldwide.

Employees have volunteered for several biodiversity-focused community projects such as creating a Miyawaki forest in Portugal, promoting coexistence with Iberian wolves across Portugal and Spain, and monitoring the health of the Sungai Pantai River in Malaysia.

Our volunteers actively support animal welfare organizations through hands-on assistance. Some of the beneficiaries include the Philippines Animal Welfare Society and Mayari Animal Shelter shelters in Philippines; Przytulisko Głowno in Poland; and the Stray Animal Welfare Organization and RESQ in India. We have also hosted multiple webinars across the year to raise awareness about endangered and endemic species, snake coexistence, and the importance of honeybee conservation.

Teams across our global offices participated in World Cleanup Day on 24th September 2024. Our employees collected hundreds of kilograms of waste materials for proper disposal from beaches, wetlands, mountains and parks. Additionally, we have seen over 2,800 trees planted by our employees – with 1,300 in Portugal alone.

Our employees are dedicated to environmental responsibility, and their efforts reflect Fujitsu’s holistic approach to creating a healthier planet.

We envision a future where people and nature thrive. Across Fujitsu Global Delivery Unit, we encourage resource saving and resource sharing among employees, their families, and our communities. By embedding these behaviors in daily life, we strive to make a circular society a reality.

During the last 12 months, several internal initiatives focused on promoting a circular economy. Our employees engaged in book exchanges, recycling and upcycling contests and challenges, and sharing eco-friendly practices that highlight how small practical changes can make a big difference.

We carried out year-long water-saving campaigns, focusing on conservation and reuse practices. Near our offices, several bodies of water are protected by our volunteers – and we spent over 350 hours on this important task during 2024. River monitoring and clean-ups are a recognition of the importance of biodiversity and the effect our daily actions have on our water sources.

Additionally, we enabled resource saving by extending the lifespan of IT equipment, while also helping to bridge the digital divide in society by donating over 300 laptops and external screens.

Our initiatives demonstrate our dedication to resource circulation, waste reduction, and environmental stewardship. They also demonstrate Fujitsu’s commitment to building a culture of responsibility and innovation. Inspired by colleagues from all over the world, we strive to create a world where resources are valued, waste is minimized, and the environment is protected for generations to come.

Fujitsu Global Actions:
Fujitsu has accelerated its plans to achieve carbon neutrality, setting 2030 as goal to reduce its carbon emissions to zero. Fujitsu is also committed to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) across its entire value chain, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, by 2040. You can read more about our journey here, and see the SBTi validation of these objectives here.

This quickened roadmap to a carbon neutral future underlines the commitment of Fujitsu Group to reducing the environmental impact of its entire value chain.

Global Delivery Unit Actions:
Fujitsu Global Delivery Unit partners with Climate Impact Partners to offset emissions from air travel. High quality carbon credits are verified under a recognized global standard, chosen specifically to support impactful projects that align with our sustainability goals. These projects include solar energy access in India and grassland restoration programs in China. We were able to offset a combined 1,134 tons of CO2e during 2024.

We have established energy consumption reduction targets for all our global facilities. We are happy to share that we are running on 98% renewable energy in Costa Rica, and 100% renewable energy in Philippines, Portugal, and one of our two locations in Poland. Additionally, two of our five India locations have solar energy generation on-site, providing up to 30% of daily demand.

We are also actively working to reduce emissions through a strategic approach to fleet electrification. We incentivize employees across our global offices to choose hybrid or electric vehicles, transitioning year-on-year to more sustainable transportation models.

Fujitsu’s commitment to net-zero is a key priority. You can read more about our efforts to move toward carbon neutrality on the Fujitsu Climate and Energy Vision webpage.
